Saturday 24th April

Floralies was incredible. Azaleas and rhodos got boring after the first 2 minutes! But the floral art was amazing.
I'll try and put some pictures on facebook when I find wifi. Today we've seen the annual flower parade huge floats decorated with millions of hyacinth pips, tulips, daffs etc. Amazing. More pics to follow. Off to Amsterdam now. Getting advice from the tour rep about pick pockets in the city. Nice!!!! X

1am Sunday 18th

Phew. Exhausted. Just got to bed having had another hugely successful theme night at the carmen rose. International singing sensation Donna Reid wowed and entertained our guests with some jazz numbers while they dined on carl's superb food. Don't miss these amazing nights. Next one is April 30th with Spanish guitarist and singer Galina Vale. Followed the next evening with an abba night.

Tuesday 6th April

Just realised I've only got two more weeks to get two assignments in (doing a floristry degree at Myerscough College) - help!
The first one I've got to create a 3D design in any medium influenced by an artist. As my only passion is for flowers I'm doing a floral design using Per Benjamin as my inspiration. Having been on a training course with Per last year and seen his dem at Myerscough I was completely blown away by his colours and techniques.
I'm basing my design on his straw technique but using pipe cleaners instead and a whole pile of branches I cut down from a crab apple tree.

Per Benjamin's straw design

My pile of twigs waiting for inspiration

First step. Bending the willow into circles

Adding more twigs and a mirror ball

Adding my twisted pipecleaner
Looking good so far. Not sure what the next step will be. Watch this space!!!!

Easter Monday

Easter Sunday turned out to be busy busy busy. Yippee!! Great to hear the till ringing once more. It's been a long quiet winter. Not so good today because its cold cold cold.
Off to the bridal fair shortly to see if they've managed to give out any of my leaflets. These were the two pieces I had to create in a hurry on Easter Sunday morning.

Happy Easter

http://www.facebook.com/home.php?ref=home#!/pages/The-Carmen-Rose/102046559832454?ref=nfWeather is not being kind to us today. Too cold for walkers and cyclists and we are fairly quiet. Good news though, the local bridal shop is having a two day sale and she's allowed me to display a couple of designs, hopefully lots of prospective brides will pick up my leaflets.
Happy Easter x

Had a great day. Tea rooms were a bit busier - we sold our first high tea: sandwiches, scones, cakes. Couple were thrilled, loved the carmen rose and said we were better than betty's in york AND Harrogate!! Did a few flower orders and got more for tomorrow. Yippeeee. Had to dash outside at one point to rescue the flowers from a hail storm!!
